One tune that emerged in its entirety was 'Waste'. As me and my friend Sandy were singing at the piano together, we began a call-and-response exchange that lasted for twenty minutes. The sincerity of the message of the song comes through in this audio clip because it displays honest vulnerability and emotion in the vocal improvisations, "it could never be waste". I wanted to be as real as possible with my album, and that meant not hiding the true emotions that we feel as humans, the good, bad and the ugly. chronic insecurity among young people is at an all-time high, people don't even know how to be themselves. I wanted to create a song that would feel like snow on the ears of the listener, hoping that someone out there needs to hear this.
It’s been a while since we’ve been here
So much has changed, so much is still
Still the same, as it’s always been
I still see your face sometimes
In times when I feel alright
Time seems to go on by
Since just me and you spent some time
Seeing your face
Could never, ever be (never be a waste)
Because every morning I just see your face
It’s the most special
Time of the day
When you're smiling, yeah
It could never be a waste
Oh, it could never ever be
