Recording

I performed, produced, and mixed all of the tracks on my album. My learning experiences over the last two years have been extremely inspiring, and I would love to work as a music producer or recording engineer. It would be my dream to be able to help artists realise their artistic visions and goals. I had no idea that audio engineering, mixing, and mastering were art forms until I started producing my music. It contributes to the warmth and character that we love in our favourite records. I gained a thorough understanding of acoustics and various micing techniques—I quickly realised that audio is only as good as the room it is recorded in. Because of its medium, square size, my bedroom has the best acoustic properties in my flat. I discovered that my living room was too boomy, and my kitchen and bathroom reflections were undesirable in every recording I attempted. Working alongside engineers taught me a lot about close-miking instruments and recording stereo piano or acoustic guitars. I looked into microphone techniques, such as how to achieve a good room sound. I was mostly creating and recording by myself, so using additional microphone techniques allowed me to record my voice and instruments to get a different sound. I Will be releasing my album privately to SoundCloud. I am still learning a great deal about mixing, and my home-recordings are a work in progress. I have done the best I can and am extremely proud of myself for recording, producing and mixing everything.

The Audio-Technica AT2020, along with the SM57 dynamic microphone, has been one of the best purchases I've ever made. Despite the higher noise level, I was able to use it for my soft-spoken vocals. I wanted to bring out the soft qualities in my voice, but I discovered that increasing the gain caused noise that wasn't present with other mics. Utilising the SM57 to add a trashy sound when micing guitars, piano and even vocals.
